DIY Install: Porsche 911 Anti-Buffeting Wind Deflector

By Daren Foertsch

If you’ve ever rolled down one window in your 911 and heard that annoying wind-flapping noise, you know exactly what we’re talking about. Porsche 911s — especially the 992 GT3 and GT3 RS — are notorious for that buffeting sound when the windows are cracked. The good news? We’ve got a fix.

Our Anti-Buffeting Wind Deflectors are designed to kill that wind noise without ruining the clean look of your ride. They’re easy to install, look OEM, and come in gloss black or a raw finish you can paint to match.

Here’s a quick DIY install guide to get them on your car in about 10–15 minutes.

What You’ll Need:

  • Wind deflectors (2020+ Models)

  • A small piece of Paint Protection Film (PPF)

  • GE Silicone adhesive (or similar)

  • A sharp knife or scissors

  • Microfiber towel

  • Glass Cleaner

1. Clean the Mounting Area

Make sure the triangular area near your side mirrors (where the deflector mounts) is wiped down and free of dust or debris. Use a microfiber towel and glass cleaner for a quick once-over.

Now's a good time to test fit the piece — get familiar with how it lines up and tucks into place before applying any adhesive. This will make final installation quicker and cleaner.

2. Apply Paint Protection Film (PPF)

Cut a small square of PPF and stick it onto the triangle section. This acts as a protective layer between your carbon fiber and the adhesive, so you won’t damage your trim if you ever decide to remove the deflectors.

💡 Pro Tip: If you’re not comfortable cutting PPF directly on the car, just use scissors to cut it to shape beforehand. It doesn’t have to be perfect — this layer will be hidden under the deflector.

3. Prep the Deflector & Apply Silicone

Your wind deflector comes with pre-applied double-sided tape on the upper side. Before installation, make sure your tube of GE Silicone is fresh and ready to go.

Add a light bead of silicone to the back of the deflector. This is your long-term hold. The tape handles instant grip, the silicone locks it in for the long haul.

4. Install the Deflector

  • Line up the deflector with the door/window trim.

  • Tuck the bottom lip into the seam so it fits snugly.

  • Press the whole piece firmly into place — especially the taped areas — to make sure it sticks.

Thats it! Minimal curing time needed because you're using the double-sided tape. The silicone will set underneath while the tape holds everything in place so you can drive right away.

These wind deflectors do more than just kill buffeting noise — they look clean, feel OEM, and finish off the side profile of your 911 beautifully. Right now they’re available in gloss black or raw finish (for paint-matching). Carbon fiber versions are on the way soon.
